China on Friday warned that tensions on the Korean Peninsula could spin out of hands. North Korea said it could test a sixth nuclear weapon at any time resulting in a United States naval group positioned near the peninsula creating an illusion of a possible preemptive strike. China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, in Beijing said,
The United States and South Korea and North Korea are engaging in tit for tat, with swords drawn and bows bent, and there have been storm clouds gathers… If they let war break out on the peninsula, they must shoulder that historical culpability and pay the corresponding price for this.
The United States has demanded from China to do more to stop North Korea’s nuclear program. Trump has made it evident from his tweets that he wants China to contain their neighbor. Yi said,
We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other, whether in words or actions, and not to let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage.
North Korea’s vice foreign minister Han song Ryol blamed the United States for increased tensions between the two countries. He also said that despite several demands from China to suspend the nuclear weapons program, North Korea would continue to build its arsenal.
Experts believe that Pyongyang may conduct another nuclear test at any time. Currently, a US aircraft carrier is situated in waters off the peninsula and is conducting its biggest-ever joint military exercises with South Korea. China is also said to have deployed some 150,000 troops to the North Korean border on Sunday as part of these exercises. US Vice President Mike Pence will be travelling to South Korea on Sunday. The purpose of the trip, according to The White House, was to “consult with the Republic of Korea on North Korea’s efforts to advance its ballistic missile and its nuclear program”.You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
