In a new partnership with Pakistan, due to be announced during Pakistan’s PM Nawaz’s visit to the United States, the Obama administration will spend millions of dollars to promote education for girls in Pakistan effectively doubling spending on schools and enhancing female enrollment. The current government of Pakistan plans to increase the number of female teachers within educational institutes and building boundary walls in order to allow girls and women to learn and teach alongside men and boys. For this purpose, United States will commit $70 million and will provide full cooperation to the Pakistani government to increase the number of girls in school by more than 200,000.
An announcement regarding this is expected after a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Obama on Thursday at the White House. The agreement was reached partly by efforts of First Lady Michelle Obama. The First Lady is responsible for an the initiative Let Girls Learn which is designed to help girls all around the world attend school and complete their education. After launching of this initiative, Michelle Obama reached out to the world leader to invite collaboration with the U.S. and try to enroll over 62 million uneducated girls into school. South Korea, United Kingdom and Japan have already joined in the effort and US Officials considers promises from Pakistan as a significant step towards helping disenfranchised girls receiving education. On this occasion, one senior administration official said,
Empowering girls and ensuring them access to quality education has long-term, transformational benefits for their future, for their families and communities, and for Pakistan’s economic prosperity overall.
It would seem that PM Nawaz’s visit to United States will explore several avenues that media is currently not focusing on. The meeting with Obama and other US Officials will discuss security concerns, trade, economic ties, Afghan situation, and Kashmir issue. There will be no talks or deals regarding Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. PM Nawaz is reported to bring up Kashmir issue in all its aspects. Reports of PM Nawaz submitting dossiers on Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan are already coming through. Moreover, prior to a meeting between Obama and Nawaz, a deal allowing Pakistan to purchase eight new F-16 jets from the States have already gone through. Reportedly, these are the newest F-16s that Lockheed Martin only recently tested. At any rate, this particular deal brings home $70 million, all of which will be spent on education for girls within Pakistan which is quite the initiative by the current government, massively accused for not spending much on education in the country. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
