The threatening letters sent to the mosques were addressed to the children of Satan and signed American for a Better Way.
After threatening letters were received by three mosques in the United States, a civil rights group called for more police protection. These letters were addressed to the Children of Satan and sent to several mosques in California. The letters praised President-elect Donald Trump and threatened Muslim genocide. According to Los Angeles Times, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said these same letters, handwritten, were photocopied and sent to Islamic Centre of Long Beach, the Islamic Centre of Claremont and the Evergreen Islamic Centre in San Jose. The mosques in L.A. received these letters on Wednesday while the one in San Jose received it on Thursday. According to CAIR the letter states,
There’s a new sheriff in town – President Donald Trump. He’s going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he’s going to start with you Muslims… And, he’s going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews.
Hussam Ayloush, the executive director of CAIR-LA said that people at L.A. Country mosques were disheartened by the hateful letters. He added that the “irresponsible, hateful rhetoric” that Trump’s campaign revolved around fueled hatred among President-elect’s so-called supporters. He said,
I’m not saying [Trump] create racist people. He normalized it. While he might say he’s responsible, and I respect that, I remind President-elect Trump that he has a responsibility to act as a president for all Americans.
According to a San Jose Police Department spokesman sergeant Enrique Garcia the police have opened an investigation and are treating it as an incident motivated by hate.
Experts view these series of events as first of many to come. It is the same rhetoric which led many to believe that Trump will win the elections since he was fueling the hatred within many people which previously was bottled up.You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
