For those of you who watched the latest in the Terminator franchise; Terminator Genisys, you must be wondering if there was a possibility of yet another sequel. A few days ago, rumors were flying around that any future sequels to the movie had been put on permanent hold. But recently, we learned that that might not be true after all. Terminator may still return for another movie. Terminator Genisys failed to take the US Box Office by storm pocketing somewhere around $90 million even though it starred ‘Daenerys Targaryen’. The movie did earn quite some money in the foreign markets with a rather strong debut in China. The total reached up to $350 million. So why do we think the movie might return?
Well, Dana Goldberg, the Chief Creative Officer of Skydance Media, while talking about the rumors to permanently put any sequels on hold said,
I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting.
We learned previously that the next Terminator movie was due for a 2017 release but now that we know about the reshuffling, the release may delay. She continued,
We live in the world where the domestic number [does not have the] level of importance [it did] 10 or 15 years ago – I’m not saying it’s not important, it is – but we have to play to a worldwide market, in terms of ‘Terminator’, the worldwide market paid attention, but we’re not taking the domestic number lightly.
Translation: We are not happy about the $90 million in the US, but we are satisfied with the numbers elsewhere around the globe. Folks at Skydance Media have some serious rethinking to do on the plot, script, characters and overall charm of the movie. As far as we are concerned, we would like to see more Arnold. Matt Smith plays Genisys, and we are not happy about him being in the movie, so we’d appreciate if he isn’t in the next one. Also, it’s time for the movie to take a fresh start, without any link to the past or the future; a new plot and a story line would go miles with the “number”. J.K. Simmons was fun, we want him to be a part of the new team Terminator. Well, that’s all, we’ll let you in on more as it comes to us.
