Saudi Arabia has expressed a keen desired to extend China Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) far beyond the original outlines limiting the mega project to China and Pakistan. CPEC is a megaproject undertaken by the governments of China and Pakistan which would link the two countries with several trade routes and allow Chinese trade goods passage to Middle East and even Europe. CPEC extension to Red Sea and Africa is major development which would further enhance the scope of the already massive project. CPEC extension to those regions was urged by Saudi Arabian Minister for Economic Planning Engineer Adil al Faqih on Monday.
Faqih said that Saudi Arabia was keen to work with Pakistan and China and desired CPEC extension to the Red Sean and Africa. He was speaking with the Minister for Planning Development and Reform, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal in Riyadh. The two discussed enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries. The details on the proposition regarding CPEC extension are mum. So far, it is only an idea which should bring a plethora of benefits if at all the idea reaches fruition.
Iqbal was speaking with Faqih regarding the recent economic progress Pakistan made on China Pak Economic Corridor, also sharing vision 2025 experience. Faqih said that Saudi Arabia was planning on launching Vision 2030 and expressed keen desire to promote cooperation between the ministries of economic planning of the two countries.
Other countries that are interested in the China Pak Economic Corridor include Iran and Sri Lanka however, the idea of CPEC extension is the first of its kind and may bring tremendous inflow of foreign investment to Pakistan. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
