Pokemon Go is the most viral game in the history of even the Pokemon series. So much so, that the governments of the countries where Pokemon Go was officially launched warned the citizens that the extreme ‘viral’ nature of this game could land one in serious trouble. It would seem that the warning was nothing short of absolutely accurate. Recently, a teenager, in what is believed to be the first kill linked to Pokemon Go, was shot dead. The idea behind the game is to roam around on the streets and capture Pokemons. The game utilizes augmented reality showing several kinds of Pokemons all around one.
In this recent development, Jerson Lopez de Leon, 18 years of age, from Guatemala died after he was shot during an attempt to capture a Pokemon. He was playing with his cousin Daniel Moises 17 years of age. The incident occurred when the two decided to break into a house to capture a Chiquimula, a Pokemon. Breaking and entering is illegal, and as a result, the two were shot. Leon died on the spot while his cousin was badly hurt.
Pokemon Go has caused some serious trouble since its release around the world. A report had 20 teenagers playing the game in the middle of the lake after stealing a boat. A driver was fined for playing the game while driving. Another driver rammed into a police car whilst playing the game. Two Pokemon Go players were shot at by a homeowner in Florida after being mistaken for burglars. In Bosnia, authorities found people playing the game dangerously close to a mine filed set up in the 90s during a conflict.
While Pokemon Go has got people actually doing a lot physical exercise, it is nothing a short of a catastrophe waiting to happen. If proper measures are not put in place, things could escalate south real fast. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
