Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is set to introduce a special tourism police force to provide maximum security for tourists in the country.
The tourism police force will be based on Thailand’s Tourist Police Division. The managing director of PTDC Abdul Ghafoor was meeting with Deputy Commander of the Tourist Police Division of Thailand, Nithithorn Chintakanon. He said,
We will establish a tourism police force on the model of Thailand to provide security for incoming tourists.
He added that the government was committed to promoting tourism within Pakistan,
Tourism is a tool for economic and social development for any country and there is a need to concentrated on religious, sports and cultural values of our society and portray a positive image of Pakistan to the rest of the world.
He was also appreciative of the initiatives and policies of the Thai government regarding promotion of tourism to the world. Ghafoor said that the government was currently considering simplifying visa procedures so more tourists may visit each year. Tourism police force is a much needed unit in order to make tourists feel safe. Safety is one of the primary concerns of those visiting Pakistan, and lack of security continues to damage the tourism industry of the country.
Chintakanon assured Ghafoor that Thailand’s Tourist Police Division will extend maximum support to Pakistan for establishing a similar tourism police force. He also accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan extended by Ghafoor.
Ghafoor also visited World Medical Centre Hospital in Bangkok where he met with the director of the hospital, Professor Adisorn Patradul. They exchanged information regarding medical tourism in Pakistan,
Medical tourism is flourishing in Pakistan where facilities for kidney, liver and hair transplant as well as cosmetic surgery have improved… Proper publicity may bring fruitful results and increase the flow of tourists.
If Pakistan manages to establish a tourism police force unit, it will also give a boost to medical tourism, which as such, is a growing industry in Pakistan. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
