Pakistan on Tuesday conducted first test flight of the Ababeel Surface-to-Surface Ballistic Missile (SSM). Ababeel has a maximum range of 2,200 kilometers and is capable of delivering multiple warheads using Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. The statement from ISPR said,
The test flight was aimed at validating various design and technical parameters of the weapon system. The development of Ababeel weapon system was aimed at ensuring survivability of Pakistan’s ballistic missiles in the growing regional Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) environment.

Reportedly, the Ababeel SSM is equipped with radar-evading technology with the capability to engage multiple targets with high precision defeating enemy radars. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah congratulated teh nation, the scientists and engineers on successful conduct of Ababeel missile test. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain have also conveyed their appreciation to the team engaged with the development and successful first test of the nuclear capable missile.
