Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman stated that Pakistan will soon acquire fifth generation fighter jets from the international markets. For the time being however, Pakistan Air Force has her focus on the JF-17 Thunder and plans to turn into the most effective jet in its category. The move to acquire fifth-generation jets comes in keeping up with other countries in the region. Islamabad has opened negotiations with Washington for the purchase of one of the fifth generation fighter jets in their arsenal, the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Pakistan is considering at least three other options to land fifth generation fighter jets, two of which are Chinas Chengdu J-20 and Shenyang J-31. Details on other possible options are scarce at the moment.
Pakistan Air Force is expected to be equipped with fifth generation fighter jets in the next five years. Pakistan’s archrival India is looking to purchase Rafale from France, an extremely capable fighter which is India’s fifthgeneration entry however, many consider it a fourth-generation fighter. CAS maintains,
I am not prepared to acknowledge Rafale as a plane of the fifth generation since its features are confined to the fourth generation’s planes.
India originally planned on purchasing 126 Rafale jets however, that number has now dwindled down to 36.
CAS expressed confidence over Pakistan’s Air Force’s capabilities. He said that Pakistan’s air strategy was designed in a way that no aggression could work against it. He said that PAF’s skills and devotion to their country was top notch which is why it is graded as one of the best air powers in the world. CAS was jubilant over Pakistan’s achievements concerning JF-17 Thunder, a fighter jet developed jointly with China. He said that currently four countries were in the buyers list, Egypt being one of them; details on quantities and other countries were mum. He further appreciated Pak Army’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb and stated that the operation would end soon. He said,
No deadline for declaring the end of the operation can be given in such operations since you never know what could sneak in from across the borders. The operation has gone in an excellent way and the PAF did its duty in an exemplary manner.
Defense experts and analysts estimate the operation will successfully culminate towards the end of year 2016.You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates. Otherwise fill in the subscription box above, or subscribe to our RSS Feed.
