Director General ISPR, Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa while in a press briefing about Karachi Operation on Friday stated that the law-enforcing agencies successfully rendered the tie between al Qaeda and Lashkar e Jhangvi kaput in Karachi. He was speaking about the subcontinent chapter of al Qaeda. He termed this achievement a major a success by the security forces. He further added that 90 hardcore terrorists were arrested that included three high-value targets. Karachi Operation was started a few months ago to annihilate terrorist elements within the largest city of Pakistan and so far the successes have been unmatched. He said,
We have broken the overall network and nexus of terrorists belonging to al Qaeda subcontinent chapter and Lashkar e Jhangvi. They were backed by Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (Pakistan). This is a major achievement, but we have much more to do.
The terrorists that were captured were reported to involved in all major terror plots and incidents in Karachi. He said,
They committed several heinous crimes, including attacks on security forces, Kamra airbase attack, naval bus attacks and other incidents of terrorism.
While speaking about the huge success against al Qaeda and Lashkar e Jhangvi DG ISPR referred to the success of Operation Zarb e Azb as well. He stated that the massive armed operation against terrorism had resulted in forging regional peace that Pakistan had not seen for quite some time,
Hideouts of terrorists were destroyed in the operation when we launched Zarb e Azb in June 2015… It significantly declined terrorism not only in the country but in the entire region as well. Entire world has acknowledged it.

He also spoke about the ongoing operation in Karachi and stated that a number of terror incidents in Karachi had declined sharply. He further appealed to the citizens of the city to keep a sharp eye on the horizons. Target killing operations in Karachi since the start of the operation have declined by a whopping 70% whereas an 85% decline in incidents of extortion was reported. Furthermore, 90% decrease in kidnapping for ransom cases has been witnessed. It would seem that the law and order situation in Karachi is finally looking up.
