Only a day after denying that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan owned any offshore account or a company, PTI spokesperson Naeem ul Haq on Friday accepted that Imran Khan had indeed formed a “legal” offshore company through his earnings from playing cricket. He was speaking at talk show hosted by Geo New. Haq stated that when Chairman Imran Khan was playing cricket in England and Australia, he formed an offshore firm emphasizing that Khan followed all the legalities involved. He said,
I was Imran Khan’s bank manager in London at that time, his accountants formed this company to buy the London flat.
He further added that upon selling said flat, the money was brought back to Pakistan through Habib Bank. Naeem ul Haq also spoke regarding Imran Khans tax returns and claimed that he will reveal the details to the media on Saturday after speaking with Khan’s accountant.
Chairman of PTI, Imran Khan has admitted that he formed an offshore company in 1983 for the purposes of evading taxes during his playing years back in London. He admitted that while speaking with reporters at London Heathrow Airport on Friday evening. He said,
I was already paying 35% tax on my income there, so to evade further taxes, I bought the flat through an offshore firm, which was my right as I was not a British citizen.
The News published a report just a day ago which sees Naeem ul Hae denying Khan owning any offshore account. He maintained that Khan owned the flat in London under his name.
Referring to the report published by The News, Haq was asked why he denied the existence of this particular offshore company. He replied with ‘I forgot’.You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates. Otherwise fill in the subscription box above, or subscribe to our RSS Feed.
