Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, and Reham Khan have filed for divorce by mutual consent a mere ten months after their marriage which created a lot hoopla all over the country. Six months after the marriage, rumors started flying around that Imran and Reham may soon be parting ways. However, the rumors were firmly denied by the couple for the longest of times. Just last month, speculations were made that Imran Khan and Reham Khan might soon get a divorce. Once again, the couple furiously denied that rumors suggesting that people should mind their own business and not pay heed to baseless rumors. It has not been a month since the last denial, and the couple has now filed for divorce.
Amidst all the rumors regarding a divorce between the two, Imran Khan tweeted,
I am shocked at a TV channel making slanderous statements about my marriage. I strong urge the media to desist from such baseless statements.
It would seem that the rumors were not baseless at all. After the announcement of divorce hit the media, Imran Khan (official) Facebook page published a status that said,
Chairman PTI Imran Khan and Reham Khan have decided to divorce by mutual consent. Due to the sensitivity and seriousness of this extremely painful matter it is requested that the media should refrain from any speculation. There will be no further communication in this respect.
The status was published by Central Information Secretary of PTI, Mr. Naeem-ul-Haq. Reham Khan took to Twitter after the news of a divorce spread, staying that “We have decided to part ways and file for divorce.”
An official comment from either Imran Khan or Reham Khan is not yet available as to the reasons behind the divorce. However an anonymous source, close to the PTI chairman, said that the couple was not getting along. The same source stated that Reham Khan wanted to get involved in politics and Imran Khan would not let her. Reham was not one to sit at home and do nothing. Moreover, the source said that while there were other issues, some of which were unresolved, the fact that Imran Khan did not want Reham involved in politics was key. Reham had repeatedly insisted to get into politics and was repeated denied by her soon-to-be ex-husband. Furthermore, it was learned that Imran Khan was under a lot of pressure from his family, especially his sister Aleema Khan, to end the marriage with Reham.
The marriage came amidst the longest sit-in protest in Pakistan’s history, and while the country was in shambles, and people were busy doing Imran Khan’s bidding, he left to get married only to be divorced ten months later. It is indeed a sad and unfortunate affair. We wish Imran Khan and Reham Khan the very best for their future endeavors. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
