The constituency of NA-122 is referred to as ‘Takht-i-Lahore’. Roughly translated it means, the Throne of Lahore. It is considered to be the most important constituency in the general-body elections and as such gathers several thousands of people for voting. PML-N (the current ruling party of Pakistan) is generally always expected to win. In the elections of 2013, Ayaz Sadiq (PML-N) won this constituency, having defeated Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). A few months thereafter, Imran Khan led a campaign accusing PML-N of rigging the elections, and though it was a frustrating and economically-damaging process, Imran Khan got Ayaz Sadiq deseated. At the time, Ayaz Sadiq was the Speaker of the National Assembly. This led to a re-election for this particular constituency of NA-122, and three others. Though NA-122 is and will always be the prime focus.
This time around, Ayaz Sadiq of PML-N faced off with Aleem Khan of PTI. The voting began at 8 am in the morning and continued uninterrupted till 5 pm. Following are the results of the election held today, the 11th October of 2015.
PTI and PML-N were both quit exceptional at running their campaigns to win this particular constituency. Millions of rupees were wasted on these campaigns. The fight for just one constituency looked nothing like a by-poll. People were passionate and exuberant. But in the end, the people of Pakistan still lost. Thousands of accusations, primarily by PTI, were thrown around, and to what avail? For a constituency? It is our understanding that once the result is out, it should be accepted, no matter which way it goes. Throwing tantrums, by any party after the elections, only results in the wastage of important resources. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
