Early on Friday, 18th September 2015, an attack on Pakistan air force base by Taliban claimed at least 20 lives. Most of the people that died during the attack were offering Friday prayers. A military spokesman dubbed this attack as the deadliest in quite some years. Unfortunately, this attack on Pakistan air force base proves that Taliban militants still have some serious strength left in them to be able to launch such devastating attacks. The base is located in Peshawar, the same city where a few months ago Taliban took the responsibility of an attack carried out on an army school claiming over 150 lives.
According to Major General Asim Bajwa, the attack on Pakistan air force base came while many were offering morning prayers. Furthermore, he stated that in a counter-attack led against the terrorists, Captain Asfandyar Bukhari was martyred, while 13 militants were killed. It is yet uncertain whether those that died in the mosque were civilians or military. The strategy remains the same as it was with the attack at the school. The militants came in dressed in constabulary uniforms. He said,
Terrorists entered camp at two points. Encounter began immediately. The terrorists were contained within a close area. Meanwhile a group rushed to mosque, martyred 16 offering prayers.
While talking about the attack on Pakistan air force base in Peshawar, Muhammad Ikram said,
“We were offering prayers when we first heard the gunshots and then, within no time, they entered the mosque where they began indiscriminately firing. They killed and injured most of the worshippers. I fell on the ground. Then the gunmen went to other places in the base. After a long time, we were shifted to the hospital.
Muahmmad Ikram of the Pakistan Air Force spoke on telephone from a hospital where he was being treated. An anonymous military official who was at the base at the time of the attack said that the terrorists were wearing explosive jackets and were armed with grenades, AK-47 rifles, and mortars. Major General Asim Bajwa was able to post some pictures from the attack that showed militants lying dead on the ground. Owing to the gore content of the images, we will not be posted them here, however, they can be viewed at his Twtter profile.

Taliban proudly took the responsibility of this attack on Pakistan air force base claiming that 14 militants were sent to the base for an attack because it is being used by fighter jets that attack them. Those attacks are a part of Operation Zarb-e-Azb owing to which terrorist attacks are down by 70% in Pakistan. Despite such efforts by the government of Pakistan and its military, terrorists manage to strike major targets. However, given the continuous efforts, we hope that the country will soon be rid of this disease. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
