In a suspected suicide attack at the MNA Office in DG Khan, at least 7 lives were lost while 10 others were severely wounded. The office belonged to PML-N’s (current ruling party of Pakistan) MNA (Member National Assembly), Amjad Farooq who was not present in the office at the time of incident. This suicide bombing at DG Khan is believed to be a retaliation against country’s current crackdown on Islamist militancy, Operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The suicide bombing at DG Khan took place in a building opposite the home of Amjad Farooq where workers were waiting. The attack came at the start of the Holy month of Muharram, a month when Pakistan has often been plagued by terrorist attacks. Talking about the attack, Mr. Amjad Farooq stated,
As per routine people were gathered in my hujra [a room for holding meetings] to discuss their issues, when a powerful blast took place. Many of my close political workers lost their lives in this attack, but it will not make us back down from our battle against terrorism.
It was reported that at the time of the suicide bombing at DG Khan, the MNA was present in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan.
Operation Zarb-e-Azb is Pakistan’s grand-scale operation to end all terrorist activities within the country. It was launched last year in June and since then there has been a significant decline in terrorism within Pakistan. According to reports, terrorism has been brought down by 70% inside Pakistan. Given those numbers some retaliation can be expected. Pakistan needs to be extra vigilant especially in this Holy month because this is the time when the Shia minority mourns in public. Suicide bombing at DG Khan, the attack on PAF base in Peshawar and other such major incidents need to be controlled for which the security must be tightened, and fast. Last thing Pakistan needs right now is sectarian violence, and this month paves the way for future relations between Shia and Sunni sects within the country. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ for more updates.
